Where the building and the garden become the same thing.
Shot in Singapore.
Gardens by the Bay occupies 101 hectares in the Marina Bay area of central Singapore, reclaimed from the sea and opened in 2012. This image was made from ground level inside one of the conservatories, looking up through the structure. What drew me to this angle was the way the architecture and the greenery were inseparable — the steel and glass framing the plants, the plants softening the steel.
The conservatories at Gardens by the Bay are engineering projects as much as horticultural ones, designed to maintain specific climates for plants from the Mediterranean and semi-arid tropics. From the inside, the scale is hard to register at first — the canopy is high, the light diffuse, the geometry complex. This perspective tries to hold all of that at once: the upward reach of the structure, the density of the flora, the way the two systems support each other.
In your space, this print brings the feeling of being inside something that was built to make you look up.

Anyone who finds the intersection of nature and engineering compelling
Professionally printed on premium archival paper to preserve the layered greens of the flora and the structural geometry of the conservatory above.
